Hesperides Garden. Ethereal Citruses & Florals
I recently came across a theory that the golden apples from the mythical Garden of Hesperides were most likely oranges or citruses. And that just spurred my imagination right away. In my mind I instantly had a color palette and flowers I wanted to create for the collection dedicated to ‘the Gardens of the Hesperides’. As a matter of fact, the Renaissance greenhouse gardens where the citruses grew were also called ‘the Gardens of the Hesperides’. This type of gardens quickly became popular all over Europe and later became known as ‘orangeries’.
Hand painted watercolor illustrations include juicy citruses (lemons, oranges, tangerine, lime, grapefruit), poppies, ranunculus, citrus blossoms and various fresh green leaves.
